      Flattening the Curve in Retail Stores

      As America’s grocer, we’ve spent the past eight weeks focused on actions to help slow the spread across our footprint of nearly 2,800 retail stores in 35 states.

      In every decision we make, we strive to balance our most urgent mission—to be here for our communities when they need us most—with ensuring the safety of our associates and customers.

      To help other retailers prepare to safely reopen their doors to customers, we’re sharing the steps we’ve taken in our stores to promote physical distancing, enhance cleaning procedures, encourage healthy habits and more.

      First Steps


      Evaluate business model and identify all the areas that can be modified to encourage physical distancing


      Develop guidelines and educate employees on thorough sanitation protocol for all retail locations


      Promote a safe work environment by educating employees on personal safety and healthy habits


      Ensure you have infrastructure and policies in place to support the physical and mental health of your employees, including appropriate paid time off
